RUN, EMILY, RUN!

So Kwan is out of the Olympics, and Emily Hughes is in Long Island... sitting in the middle of the biggest snowstorm of the season.

No planes are taking off. The roads are covered.

On the one hand, poor Emily.

On the other... come on, could anyone have scripted this better? The drama! The doubt! The tension!

This is the best thing that could happen to Emily. If she makes it to Turin and skates great - what a story! If she makes it to Turin and doesn't skate great -- poor kid, look at everything she's had to go through. The emotional roller-coaster! The crazy travel! Jet lag! First major, Senior international!

This is what the Olympics are all about, people! Who cares about the skating? It's the human drama.

(Sidenote: Knowing the Hughes family the way I do, I wouldn't be surprised if Emily's folks pile her in a car and start driving for some open airport. They are awesome people.)

(Sidenote #2: This will put even more pressure on Sasha Cohen. The press will want to know how she feels about this latest development, and Sasha is never happy having the spotlight turn away from her onto someone else. Emily will become the story of the Games, so Sasha will try to win attention back by going out there and trying something spectacular. This is not a strategy that tends to work for her. Somewhere in Turino, there now sits a very pouty Sasha Cohen).

How right you are about Sasha! She always wants the spotlight. I think it has bothered her for quite a while to have Michelle being the "ice princess". Hopefully she will keep her mind in check and do what she is so good at doing.

They had a nice article in the NYTimes today about this. I don't think its available online though unless you are a home-delivery subscriber. The jist of it is that they Hughes family got the call while they were eating at the same restaurant where Sarah first met Michelle. They've got a dish there named after Sarah now.

I'm just glad the decision was made early enough for Emily to get to Italy and adjust to both the different time zone and the Olympics itself.

Ooh! I just love the bitchiness of all your comments!

Sasha gets quote about wanting to win and loving the spotlight and suddenly she's this horrible little twerp.

    What's with you people?

She's a performer...ALL PERFORMERS have egos...some are brasher than others. I've never heard a bad word against her as a human being...only here is her drive held up to contemptuous snorting...by what? WANNABES?

And I'm totally surprised by Ms. Adams...especially since she was "in the business" of covering the sport.

Most of what we read and see is manipulated by the media. And what could cause Sasha to say things she is quoted as saying?

    BECAUSE SOMEONE ASKED HER.

Get some help, please...before you all implode from hairballitis!
